so right! Pretty great. Fun but also serious about the realm of imagination, creativity, expression, and community. A sweet day all the way around. Kind of like Jazz Fest.
Bar, this is a little overlong but I thought others might enjoy the memory your post brought back.
I almost called you Friday to see if you had ever been to the Oregon Country Fair. I thought it might be a good break. The Fair started the year Gloria and I were married,1969, and in keeping with the times was a 60's, tied dyed hippie affair. Focused on getting completely away from the crazy times for a earthy celebration. You just had to walk around and inhale if you wanted a pot buzz. In 1972 we saw Jerry Garcia and The Grateful Dead play the fair. A very simple time back then and not as complete with merry making, crafts, food as it is now.
We took the kids a couple of times in the early 90's when they reached their teens and they still refer to it as one of their best memories growing up. Especially the guy wearing a leather cowboy hat, leather vest and full leather chaps with nothing under them. The Naked Butt Cheeks Man! Our family has cracked up about that experience ever since.
I thought of you because your personality, artistic bones, musical talent, all would have fit so perfectly back then and they would now. Your Lady Liberty ensemble for the Grand Parade! So glad you went. ❤️
Let's just say that there was still a lot of skin showing and not a lot of inhibition. It was refreshing to be honest, but I was by far the most conservatively dressed, having nothing in my closet with a flare of color and being more concerned about avoiding sunburn.
Jay told me about the Grateful Dead connection... Interesting that it's a no alcohol, no drug environment, although I'm sure some or many were enjoying a toke or two. But I was grateful to see a pretty sober crowd enjoying itself. What I loved the most was how considerate all the separate areas were. From the bathrooms to the stages to the seating areas, there was room and careful thoughtfulness for everyone. Very welcoming in that way, which gives me hope. It just felt good to be around that for a day.
Bar, this was so fun and nostalgic! I went to the Country Fair for many years, including all the years my daughters were growing up. It's a magical place! Thanks so much for posting this! ❤️💙💜
As someone who doesn't particularly like county fairs, this one looks magical!
I would love to have been there with you, Dawn. I think you would have enjoyed it.
I'd enjoy any place with you, Bar 💞
ditto, Dawn. Thank you.
Amazing!
so fun, Laura. One of a kind time and place.
WOW!

So glad, Rebecca. I really enjoyed it. Such a scene and so much kindness and color everywhere I looked. I hope you’ll be able to go again.
I want to go!! 💖
