For me, and I’m guessing others of my age who were there from the beginning of the Beatles this story and song are just incredible and beautiful. Love this, Bar. Thank you
What a time trip! I love "Now and Then." But the clips of our favorite people... a nostalgic family reunion that warms my heart.
Off topic... or not... my three-week stay with the two youngest daughters has been very good on a personal level. One of the fun things we have done is to write down ten songs for our Memorial Playlist. Lyric-wise the songs must fit the occasion, but dancing will be encouraged as well. The only list I have at-hand at the moment is Laura's. Her first choices, in order, are We've Got Tonight by Bob Seger; Star Man by David Bowie; Into the Mystic by Van Morrison; Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel; and Welcome to the Sun by Stick Figures. Oh yeah, and Rocket Man by Elton John. This isn't ten songs, but you get the idea. Working on our lists has been a close bonding occasion. xo
Hi Doris, Interesting to hear that you and the gang did this. Brent has done one too. Not sure I would know what to do with that...No doubt "The Long and Winding Road" would be on my list. Imagine too. I'd probably ask for a lot of Eva Cassidy because she's one of the best singers I ever heard. I hope you're home and resting...
Actually, I haven't! I'm playing a gig this weekend down here in Port Aransas, TX with some guys I haven't played with in a while so I'm trying to refresh my memory on their songs. One can't know too many Beatle songs though. I've played them solo or in bands and people from their 20's to their 80's seem to know the words and sing along! Pete Seeger once said a song is not successful because it gets in people's ears, it's successful because it gets on people's lips! I guess the Beatles win!
The Beatles were something special in that way. Still are. I'm glad you're playing. I often thought it would do me a world of good to learn how to play as many Beatles songs as possible. It would be such an education in melody and harmony and song structure. Alas, I haven't done it. Only so much time in one's life. Sigh. Enjoy seeing and hearing all your friends in TX. And thank you again for supporting this project of mine. Enjoy the sunny winter you enjoy there.
Thanks Bar! I hadn't seen the video for this song. It really pulls together the close relationship and loss of the most important people in our lives. It makes me feel both full and empty inside at the same time. Not an easy feat!
I had the same feeling when I saw the videos, Phyllis. So much emotion and love and nostalgia and loss all tangled up. They were at the core of our childhoods and adolescence. Seeing them all goofing around and discovering all the things they were able to discover musically and personally, warmed my heart, made me sad, took me back to a happier, less fraught and anxious time.
I knew this coming, but missed when it actually came out i must have been under a rock! Thank you so much for sharing this and sharing your story about John Lennon's tragic senseless ending (not an ending really as this piece of music video insures). The music biz has changed so much and technology has had a wide range of impacts (some negative in my mind), but here is a great example of how amazing technology and exceptional artists can synergies and make something really special. Thank you Bar!! love you...
I agree. Technology in music has had some negative impacts, but the fact that they've figured out how to separate a vocal on a cassette is pretty remarkable. I'll bet there's a bunch of music out there that would be brought to life if those of us with cassettes lying around were inclined to go fishing. (Although I'm guessing a lot of it was left undone for good reason!) I love you back! You're welcome.

Thanks for sending it to me, sweet man. Can't get it out of my head.

Nice write up Bar!
Thanks, Bob. Have you learned the song yet?? I’m guessing you have!
