Lucky you, Bar. What a good mother you had. And she did so many things she wanted to do.

Obviously I've got no words here except I love what you wrote about her, and love the painting assignmnent. Now I will just shut up.

Dear Abby, I was/am lucky. She was something, especially given the era she grew up in.

Never shut up! I'm Always glad to hear what you say. love from here.

Lovely, Bar. The memory of your mom, telling us a bit about her, giving yourself the gift of quiet creativity. Thank you. PS: Woodstock misses you, too. xo

Sending love and best wishes and whatever it takes to get through loss into watercolor or something like that. xo

sure does help to make stuff, no question about that. I find playing the piano difficult, though. Stirs up a little too much for me now but I'll be glad to get back to it when the time is right. Happy New Year, and thank you, Betty.

Big hugs, Bar. Your pause to make art is inspiring. I may check out that course.

Thanks, Jacqueline. The focus of making something is really good for me. Keeps my mind busy and there's a lot of enjoyment in seeing what comes of whatever I'm doing. One of the reasons I like Laura McKendry is because her work is very colorful. Mine (my music, that is) tends to be dark in color, so I'm grateful to enjoy using bright colors. Especially mid-winter during the Oregon rainy season! I'm guessing it's too basic for you, but who knows. Sometimes it's good to start at the beginning. Happy New Year. b

I want to meet you at the New Morning Cafe. I'll buy. Yes, to the coffee and you can have a muffin too. And then let's buy some watercolor paints and paper. I'll buy my own and not ask to use your paints or paper. And then let's play with the first assignment. The freedom of beginning with a splash of color leads to my taking a deep cleansing breath.

I want you to meet me there, too, but I'll have tea, thank you! :) It would be fun to paint with you. Makes me curious to know if you paint already. Not sure if I know that or not??? Happy New Year.

Wow, I think you described you mother fabulously. What a Renaissance woman! Have a lovely new year, that painting class looks like fun.

Thank you OVOTW, So curious to know who you are...As for mom, I don't think of her as a Renaissance woman, but of course she was. She had cajones when women weren't encouraged to have cajones. Thankfully my grandparents saw her for who she was and encouraged her to do what she wanted to do (and my father did too, and with five daughters, she was determined to show us what a woman could do). The watercolor thing is really good. A whole different experience for me and I love it. Not sure I have what it takes to be good at it, but one of the reasons it's so good for me right now is that I don't care about that. What a relief! So good to get older on that level. Thanks again. Happy New Year.

I love this post so much. And I love your whimsical watercolors.

Dear Kirsti, Thank you. They're so much fun to come up with. I love children's art so I'm inclined to stay at the level. Wish I could draw better. Getting chins and legs and arms and paws "right" is HARD. Maybe you can show me how???

Thank you Bar, You made your mom come alive in your writing. You do not need to write chapters-that's your superpower! Just like other great songwriters and poets, you capture so much in so few words. I am with you and holding you in my heart. Thank you again for your beautiful words.

P.S. I like to think that when you gently swirl your watercolor brush into your little paint-water puddle, the colors' energies flow up your hand, your arm, into your heart...then return down your arm infused with your heart's love, pain, joy, gratitude... back to your hand, then through your brush... and then with a gentle touch, the paint joins that textured, unpredictable watercolor paper allowing for all kinds of yet unknown possibilities...and there you are...creating something...new...

Love that you are doing watercolors! 🎼🎶💜💙💚💛🧡❤️🌈beth

Dear Beth, I think that IS what's happening with creative activity? It really is a powerful thing to be creative. Here we all are creating things: lives, music, paintings, dances, jobs, families, gardens, whatever we're doing, we're creating. That thought thrills me. Thank you for ALL your kindness. Let's tawk! xoxo
