Yes, they need us, and we need them. There's no "may."

"Aging in place" is where we are at in Westcliffe. Living at 8,000 feet, an hour from sort-of-city life, we've lost a good number of friends who have moved closer to healthcare, family, or a lower elevation. As sad as that sounds, our new Readers' Theater group is led by the high school drama teacher, Melanie Duke. She is amazing! But the icing on the cake is that three high schoolers have joined the group - each young student, a chocolate-dipped Oreo.

So great to hear this, Doris. Young people joining older folks doing something together is such a hopeful, powerful thing. Just love it. Thank you.

So do I. I hope you have some version of gathering in your life.

Thank you.

There is something profound, primordial about our species' innate desire for gathering isn't there Bar. And a communal meal of some sort. Hooray for your Women's group. Talking about everything and nothing, probably some laughing and crying, perfect!

you're right! Laughing and crying, or at least teary-eyed. We all feel grateful. And I do think gathering is an innate need. In fact, I just the front page of a whole section from this week's NYTimes called Let Us Gather so there are others thinking about the importance of gathering too, especially eating together. Communion. That's how i think of it.
